The beauty, and the beast, of Rails
During work (day job) over the last few days, the team has had lots of discussions around database design and functional requirements, and I have to admit this has been enjoyable yet frustrating.
Enjoyable from the aspect that even having discussions is novel in our office (project time constraints normally mean code first, think later) and frustrating in that you can often feel like you are swimming upstream, and not getting very far…
We’ve had many debates about how Rails doesn’t always help you when it comes to database design, more that it aids you at patching together a system if you haven’t thought about it that much in advance!
I’ve used some amazing Rails applications like Shopify, Twitter and socialthing, and have to think that Rails is amazing and can make some great applications, therefore shouldn’t this be easy…
Anybody with any ideas, please contact me… and quickly!
